A young girl named Hotaru gets lost in the woods during a summer vacation in her uncle's mountain lodge. Some might think that 40 minutes isn't all that long, but in this case, it was more than enough to tell a tale. "Hotarubi No Mori E" is yet another fine example of Japanese creativity and talent to make a heart warming story. The simple story, serene quality & magical vibe helps keep the interest alive while evoking feelings of nostalgia in surprising ways. Overall, To the Forest of Firefly Lights would've sufficed as a short film instead of aiming for feature-length but it still makes fab use of its 45 mins runtime, taking viewers through plethora of emotions.

The story unfolds at a breezy pace, while the interaction between the two characters plus their growing intimacy for each other is sensibly handled & finely portrayed.

Directed by Takahiro Omori, the film addresses first love, memories & passage of time in an apt manner, and is as exquisitely animated as it is beautifully told.

I strongly encourage everyone to give it a try.Short, sweet & sentimental, To the Forest of Firefly Lights (Hotarubi no Mori e) is a simple yet moving coming-of-age story following a young child who is rescued by a spirit after she gets lost in an enchanted forest, and covers her decade-long friendship with the same entity despite the limitations of their interactions. What I said couldn’t even describe how beautiful and well executed this show is. Because Hotaru could have friends outside of the forest, but the one she hold dear to her heart was her relationship with Gin, and their precious time spent together. Hotaru and Gin both, in this show, showed how their relationship was important to them, and I think that’s what really touched my heart. I said it.) The portrayal of the love between the two main characters, be it the romantic type of the kind between close friends, is really something precious and truthful that I think is hard to find in shows nowadays when romantic feelings and friendship alike just seem to form effortlessly without obvious time spent together or conversations to get to know each other. The AMV I linked earlier really captures the main plot and feelings in the anime-movie, which is how that stupid monster of a video made me cry (There. This is the story about friendship between a spirit and a human, built over years spent in the forest every summer. When she was led to the end of the forest by Gin, she promised to come back again with a gift, despite Gin’s advice and warning not to come back again for her own safety.īut you know how stubborn little kids are. But they had fun, as much fun as a girl who is no longer lost can have in a forest, that is. Gin, with his fox maskīut, well, you see, Gin is a forest spirit, so he’s special right? He can’t touch humans (and if he does he dies) so young Hotaru couldn’t touch him while he led her back out. Gin, a masked forest spirit, saved her a brought her back out of the forest. Hotarubi no Mori e is about a girl named Hotaru (firefly) who went to explore the ancient forest because of a tale of a mountain god and got lost there. I’ve probably sweat through my eyes watching a quarter of the animes I’ve watched (so that’s about 40 times?) Well no my tears aren’t as precious as fairy’s tears. It’s been awhile since I watched this show (like, November 2015, it’s been a year man) but youtube took one look at all the Japanese songs and covers I’ve been listening to recently and went ‘oh bub’s watching all the happy anime things lets send a sad one over’ and proceed to steal precious fairy tears out of my eyes.
